Schedule of when you can expect updates

Holistic Development

"Jesus became wiser and stronger. He also became more and more pleasing to God and to people." Luke 2:52 (NIRV) Now if Jesus who Christians profess is their model, friend and guide needed to grow mentally, physically, spiritually and socially then who are we to think that we too must grow in all of these areas. A hero must work to develop daily in each of these areas in some way.

Spiritual

Every human being has been created with a spiritual nature. Many try to deny this fact. But that is like denying that you don't need to breathe. The hero must 1st be a hero to God. Yes this is possible. God loves all people, that is true but it is possible to live a life that when all is said and done God will say, "Well done..." That is the life that I long to live. That is the purpose of Spiritual disciplines. I will outline some of them there and talk about my progress here. What is important for you to hear is that the purpose is to draw man closer to God. Not to simply try to win His favor.

Mental

Many of the world's special forces require some pretty heavy and classic reading loads. This is true for the modern day hero. There is much knowledge out there and to be able to flex to the daily issues and challanges a hero must be well read. Seek head knowledge around every corner. Watch documentaries, talk with experts in assorted fields and most importantly, dream. Einstein is reported to have declared that imagination is more important than knowledge... Find ways to utilize your imagination and you will see a new colorful world that was once only black and white.

Real Life at the Shelter

Life at the shelter is rarely boring. But it always gives great opportunities to be a hero. In order to be a hero you must be filled with courage.

You are entering a land where up to 9 women live in a motel room together. Which I am sure was never the plan that God had in mind for anybody. They don't alway know each other, and they often already don't like each other. You add to the mix addiction, missed medications, street mindset, mental illness and a whole other array of other issues and life at the shelter on any given night is better than reality tv.

At the Crisis Shelter we strive to offer the ladies World Class, Life Changing Care. We demonstrate and share the love of Christ in any way that we can. For many they start out as fearful and hopeless and for some when they leave they move out hopeful and fearless. Now that is the power of God.

Self Examination

Taking time to examine yourself with a totally honest heart and mind is one key to eventual success for the hero. Here are some areas that I am using to examine my self.

Social

You can not go it alone. Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto. Yes other people create challanges. For example it was easier for me to give up a good paying job to chase after what I felt God wanted me to do when I was single. But I felt many years later God calling me to move on to new things, but then I had a wife and two kids. That was more difficult. I did it. But to be honest I was scared spitless.
Social includes such things as parenting, marriage, business, church and other social arenas and the cost of failing can be devestating. I have worked with the homeless for 10 years and I see the results almost every day of bad parenting. I see the results of marriages that have failed. I must succeed in this area.

Physical

A hero must be able to accomplish the mission. If the wanna be hero is too tired or broken to complete the mission he will fail. It is up to the hero when not in the middle of the mission to prepare his mind and body for the future missions that he will face.
